Glass Blowing Master, Paul SAID, started as an apprentice in the art of glassblowing at the age of 16. He began learning the complicated, yet fascinating art of glass blowing from a well known Venetian master and was finally ready to express his own artistic vision in 1981, when he set up Valletta Glass as a family joint venture. Paul Said has always been an active upholder of the craftsmanship trade and has emphasized the importance of hand made objects, irrespective of the fabric used in the process. To this purpose he has built and maintained a close relationship with the other craftsmen in Crafts Village , Malta , contributing significantly to the survival and continuity of the ancient tradition of hand made art. The essence of handcraft lies in the connection inherently established between the artist and the art lover, since every art object is created by human touch, with love and passion, thus bearing a glimpse of the spirit and creativity of the artist himself. The team of highly skilled artists at Valletta Glass have dedicated their work entirely to hand made objects of art, with respect for the tradition, therefore using exclusively the ancient glass blowing techniques, refined by centuries and passed on from generation to generation by skillful masters. Their commitment to keep alive and pass on the traditional craft is completed by a ceaseless pursuit of perfection in shapes, colours and patterns, which come to enrich the world of blown glass art while still preserving its timeless spirit. The premises, located in the Crafts Village of Ta' Qali, on the outskirts of Rabat and the ancient capital city of Mdina include a workshop producing high standard custom designed glassware and two adjacent shops providing ample space for visitors. You may attend here the making of glassware in all its stages and you can observe the innate skill of the craftsmen as they shape and blow the glass from the red hot molten mass to a graceful shape, breathing colour and life. At Valletta Glass you will find items that are useful as well as decorative, to suit a variety of tastes, produced in colours that reflect both vibrant and soft shades of the south. From the palest skies to the bluest waves of the Mediterranean Sea , the golden sun that shines on the reds and greens of the Maltese countryside, all the colours of the spectrum are rendered in these artefacts of gleaming glass. Fusing, flower vases, ashtrays, paperweights, glasses, bowls and decanters are among these. Animal lovers will be delighted with the birds, dolphins, cats, swans and elephants for a glass menagerie. Special orders may include wall sculptures at large scale, architectural designs for lobbies, atriums, hallways, offices, clubs and generally any public, private or corporate facilities. |
